Thriving Here

Accessibility to a skilled workforce is a critical factor when a company decides to locate to a new community.

Arizona State University, Grand Canyon University, Northern Arizona University, University of Arizona, and Maricopa County Community College – the largest community college district in the nation – are among our nationally recognized academic partners that offer undergraduate and graduate degrees in a variety of disciplines.

Higher Education In Our Backyard

Scholarship Opportunities

In the Fall of 2021, the City of Avondale teamed up with Estrella Mountain Community College and the Maricopa Community College Foundation to leverage American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds and created a first-of-its-kind collaborative scholarship opportunity. In response to the industries hit hardest by the pandemic, the Avondale EDGE Scholarship was created to help students pursuing careers in the food and healthcare industries, earning degrees in Culinary Arts and Nursing. Avondale businesses are able to offer this scholarship opportunity as a recruitment tool for their incoming and existing workforce and the community colleges are able to facilitate a thriving education-to-workforce pipeline.

Estrella Mountain Community College Nursing program, approved by the Arizona State Board of Nursing and the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), will prepare you with the fundamental skills necessary to be successful as a nurse assistant, licensed practical nurse (LPN), or as a registered nurse (RN) in a variety of acute, long-term, and community-based healthcare settings.
The Culinary Arts program covers a wide curriculum of hands-on training to help you become the toast of the town – as a cook, pastry or restaurant chef, baker, or caterer. Our expert instructors will teach you culinary and baking concepts and techniques, nutrition, and theory.
