The Leading EDGE Awards are an opportunity for the City of Avondale to recognize local businesses that have positively impacted both the community and the business environment. The Leading EDGE Awards honor Avondale businesses in two categories: Community Impact and the People’s Choice award.

Community Impact Award

The Community Impact Award for Business honors businesses going above and beyond their normal business operations, donating their time, talent and treasures to the community.

The Community Impact Award for Nonprofit recognizes an outstanding nonprofit organization for its vital contributions and unwavering commitment to serving the Avondale community.

People’s Choice Award

The People’s Choice Award is nominated, voted on and selected by YOU, the public! This is an opportunity to show love to your favorite Avondale restaurant, service or retail shop. Voting for the People’s Choice Award is done in two stages.

Round 1

The first round is an open call for nominations, allowing everyone to nominate their favorite Avondale business.

Round 2

The second round takes the 3 most-nominated businesses from the previous round and opens voting for the top 3 finalist to the public. The business that receives the most votes will be awarded the highly coveted People’s Choice Award!.

February 7, 2025

Nominations for Community Impact for Business and Community Impact for Nonprofit close. The first round of nominations for the People’s Choice Award closed.

February 12, 2025

Round 2 for People’s Choice Award opens, voting for the top 3 finalists.

February 26, 2025

Round 2 for People’s Choice Award voting closes.

April 10, 2025

Winners will be announced at the City of Avondale’s State of the City.

The Flower Wrangler, recipient of the Community Impact for Business Award. Mia Mazzochi, the force behind the one-woman-shop, cultivates stunning flowers in the Wild West.

Community Impact Award for Nonprofit 2023

Mission of Mercy

Mission of Mercy is a remarkable nonprofit organization. In partnership with Avondale Baptist Church, they provide free healthcare and prescription medications to the uninsured, underinsured, and those who fall through the cracks of our healthcare system. Since November 2010, they have been offering medical care every Monday.

People’s Choice Award

Modern Grind Coffee

Modern Grind is a community driven coffee shop serving up everything from hot coffee to healthy beverages, eats, treats and some merch for good measure. Owner Daphnie Kelly’s coffee is for a good cause, often supporting groups like teachers, first responders, military heroes and youth programs through special discounts and fundraising opportunities. Daphnie is a 2x Leading EDGE Award recipient, winning the 2021 Community Impact Award and 2022 People’s Choice Award!
