The Leading EDGE Awards are an opportunity for the City of Avondale to recognize local businesses that have positively impacted both the community and the business environment. The Leading EDGE Awards honor Avondale businesses in two categories: Community Impact and the People’s Choice award.

Community Impact Award

The Community Impact Award for Business honors businesses going above and beyond their normal business operations, donating their time, talent and treasures to the community.

People’s Choice Award

The People’s Choice Award is nominated, voted on and selected by YOU, the public! This is an opportunity to show love to your favorite Avondale restaurant, service or retail shop. Voting for the People’s Choice Award is done in two stages.

Round 1

The first round is an open call for nominations, allowing everyone to nominate their favorite Avondale business.

Round 2

The second round takes the 3 most-nominated businesses from the previous round and opens voting for the top 3 finalist to the public. The business that receives the most votes will be awarded the highly coveted People’s Choice Award!.

January 26, 2024

First round of nominations for People’s Choice Award close. Nominations for Community Impact for Business close.

February 5, 2024

Round 2 for People’s Choice Award opens, voting for the top 3 finalists.

February 23, 2024

Round 2 for People’s Choice Award voting closes.

April 11, 2024

Winners will be announced at the City of Avondale’s State of the City.

The Flower Wrangler

The Flower Wrangler, recipient of the Community Impact for Business Award. Mia Mazzochi, the force behind the one-woman-shop, cultivates stunning flowers in the Wild West.

Community Impact Award for Nonprofit 2023

Mission of Mercy

Mission of Mercy is a remarkable nonprofit organization. In partnership with Avondale Baptist Church, they provide free healthcare and prescription medications to the uninsured, underinsured, and those who fall through the cracks of our healthcare system. Since November 2010, they have been offering medical care every Monday.

People’s Choice Award

Modern Grind Coffee

Modern Grind is a community driven coffee shop serving up everything from hot coffee to healthy beverages, eats, treats and some merch for good measure. Owner Daphnie Kelly’s coffee is for a good cause, often supporting groups like teachers, first responders, military heroes and youth programs through special discounts and fundraising opportunities. Daphnie is a 2x Leading EDGE Award recipient, winning the 2021 Community Impact Award and 2022 People’s Choice Award!

C West Entertainment

C West Entertainment is an event production company and DJ located in Avondale, AZ. A staple at West Valley events and special occasions, they bring the fun wherever they go! As a small business themselves, they’ve been known to join in ribbon cutting celebrations, helping welcome their fellow business owners to the city.

Community Impact Award for Nonprofit 2022

A New Leaf

Since 1971, A New Leaf has provided assistance to those most in need in our community, helping families, children, and adults overcome the challenges they face. By offering these compassionate services, we help households move from crisis to stability, making our community a better place to live. A New Leaf offers regular services to the Avondale community at the Avondale Complete Health Resource Center.

People’s Choice Award

Modern Grind Coffee

Avondale’s first, two-time Leading EDGE Award winner, Modern Grind is a coffee shop dedicated to making a lasting difference within the community by providing delicious, high quality, innovative products that are delivered through exquisite customer service, one coffee cup at a time.

Eric’s Family Barbecue is a family/veteran owned/operated barbecue restaurant that prides themselves in serving 100% fresh meat, Avondale style barbecue, and fresh handcrafted deserts.

Phoenix Raceway

Phoenix Raceway has been the premier motorsports venue in the Southwest since 1964. In addition to hosting two NASCAR race weekends each year, including the Championship Race Series, Phoenix Raceway also hosts a variety of events throughout the year including corporate meetings, conferences, charity events, holiday parties and more!

More than just a coffee shop, Modern Grind was built with a community focus, from the coffee grounds up! Dedicated to serving great coffee and our great community, Modern Grind has made it their mission to pay it forward, championing local groups and causes around the valley.

Founded nearly 40 years ago, Ed’s Fish & Chips is a family-owned business that has served generations of Avondale residents. Known for their classic fish & chips and old-fashioned arcade games, it’s fair to say Ed’s has won the heart of the city.
